During the next few months’ the children- Active Buddies- will be delivering the second part of the Inter-Generational Project initiated earlier this year with the “Silver Sports”. The first activity was focused on “Willow Weaving”; the whole school as part of the Ambassador Schools project in unison with National Park Rangers Service created a beautiful Willow Tree woven into the playground fence.
They wanted to share these skills with their Silver Sports and created Dragonflies to add to the willow display. Sally Wheal from the NPR arrived with abundant supplies of soaked willow and templates to use; the active buddy was joined by their Silver Sport in the main classroom where they received instructions from her on how to create their own “dragonfly”.
The room was a buzz of activity, chatter and laughter as the “creations” began to emerge. It was wonderful to see how the buddy and Silver Sport helped each other to weave the willow- allowing for the development of hand eye co-ordination as well as working together
Our next activity will be in October when the buddies will be teaching the Silver Sport “New Age Curling” as well as learning more playground games from the Silver Sports childhood.
