Wells Dressing 2020

The children of Hartington C of E Primary School have been very busy on their return from the summer holidays. They have traditionally dressed a Well for Hartington Wakes and Sports, alongside the village Well, which is situated on the Village Green by the pump. This year was to be no exception.

Rather than natural materials, paint was the medium to be used this year. The school’s theme was linked to the Christian Value of ‘Hope’ and was portrayed through the story from the Old Testament of  ‘Noah’s Ark’. With the symbol of the Rainbow being synonymous of this value whilst also being linked to the NHS and global events which have occurred this year. It was felt that the content of this story is contemporary and relevant within the current climate. Each child was provided with a canvas block which they painted independently to create the overall mural of Noah’s Ark’. In previous  years, the blessing of the Well was undertaken by the Vicar during the parade of the “Odd fellows”. This year the dedication of the Well was carried out on the school premises during their daily act of Worship delivered by the children. The Well was kindly dedicated by a member of the Church Community and then on display, in the village during the Wakes weekend. Its permanent home will be in the school.
