We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school. All concerns are passed through the member of staff who is trained as a “Designated Child Protection Officer or DCPO” in school in compliance with the “sharing of information” guidance. Cause for Concern:
All staff are advised to report any causes for concern to the DCPO using a pro-forma available from the school office. Any concerns will be shared with parents/carers as early as possible where appropriate, as more often than not there are extremely reasonable explanations for the concern. Concerns may range from children being visibly upset to persistent lateness to children “disclosing” concerns.
Staff safeguarding guidance and training informs all of the following:
• Procedures to safeguard children and young people;
• Awareness-raising about abuse in order to overcome barriers to children and young people reporting their concerns;
• Helping adults recognise the signs and indicators that might give rise to concern;
• How to respond to concerns about abuse of children and young people;
• How to respond to children and young people making an allegation of abuse;
• Ways in which adults can raise concerns about unacceptable behaviour by other adults.

‘Sexting’:
The term ‘sexting’ is derived from texting and refers to the sending of sexually provocative material (including photos, videos and sexually explicit text) from modern communication devices or applications, such as mobile phones, tablets, email, social networking sites and instant messaging services.
Specifically ‘sexting’ is images or videos generated:
• By children under the age of 18, or;
• Of children under the age of 18 that are of a sexual nature or are indecent.
These images are shared between young people and/or adults via a mobile phone, handheld device or website with people they may not even know.
The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) have created ‘Nude Selfies: What Parents and Carers Need to Know‘. This is a series of four short animated films for parents and carers offering advice on how to help keep their children safe from the risks associated with sharing nude and nearly nude images

Educate Against Hate:
The Department for Education website ‘Educate Against Hate’ offers practical advice and information for parents, teachers and school leaders about extremism and radicalisation. The website has been created with consultation from organisations such as Childnet and the UK Safer Internet Centre, and includes information on:
• Warning signs of danger;
• How parents should talk to children about extremism;
• Steps concerned parents can take.
