Derbyshire Catering Service ~Food Explorers Menus
Every Food Explorer menu is made up of tasty dishes packed full of nutrients, with each meal offering Food Explorers at least 3 of their 5 a day.
Our theme days offer lots of new flavours to explore and include competitions for pupils to win Food Explorer prizes.
Most of our schools will offer three choices of a Food Explorer hot main meal, including a vegetarian or vegan option, a selection of pasta pots, jacket potatoes or a sandwich.
Every Food Explorer is offered vegetables, side salad, bread and drinking water with their main meal. For dessert, fresh fruit and yoghurt is offered as an alternative to the homemade dessert of the day.
The Derbyshire Catering service take pride in using high quality produce to create their meals.
Overall, 72% of all raw ingredients used in their meals are sourced in the UK and they have a strict criterion for all of their ingredients.
For example:
- all meat served is British and Red Tractor farm assured, meaning it can be traced back to the farm.
- all eggs are Red Lion stamped
- the fish we serve will not be Marine Conservation Society “avoid” list.
The Catering service produces a menu for the each full term with additional Theme Days monthly.

At Hartington we are lucky to have a full kitchen on site and all our meals, sandwiches and desserts are made daily by Mrs K White our Kitchen Supervisor.
Mrs White also helps when food is part of the curriculum and has been running an after school Cookery Club during different terms of the year!
And, as always, the cakes made each day are delicious!
