Local Archaeology Dig

Friday 24th June 2016

The children were lucky enough to be invited to take part in a ground breaking project at the Dove Valley Centre, Under Whitle Farm in Sheen. The project was called ‘Peeling Back the Layers’. They experienced life as an archaeologist, unearthing artifacts and then cataloging them.
Ruby Debes quoted before we left, “I want to be an archaeologist when I grow up and I can’t wait to go.”
They investigated how to identify potential historical sites and how the earth can hide its secrets in the many layers of earth beneath the ground they walk on.
Harry quoted “I like digging because I found a spout off a tea pot and it looked like a snake.”
Mrs Blackwell quoted: “I was amazed at how easy it was to find artifacts so close to the surface of the soil. All the children were engrossed in all the activities and the day went by very quickly.”
