On the final day of spring term 1 (16th February 2018) the children had a non uniform day to celebrate the Chinese New Year – The Year of the Dog . All children wore something red and brought a toy dog to school. A fun packed day was had by everyone making Chinese lanterns, animal paper cuts, dragons and red envelope gifts which contained chocolate money.
At lunch time the children experienced a Chinese meal consisting of spring roles, prawn toast, noodles, plain rice, egg fried rice, chicken/vegetable/quorn chow main, chinese pork, sweet & sour sauce, prawn crackers and lychee. This was followed by the traditional fortune cookies. The school catering manager Mrs Stubbs who had prepared this fabulous meal, received a hearty three cheers and requests of ‘When can we do this again?’ The children used chop sticks and had Chinese meal boxes to eat from.
A celebration assembly was later held in the afternoon to present children with sports certificates gained during the term and level 1 bikeability certificates before they performed a dance routine learned during PE sessions with Derby County Community Trust.
