The school was extremely lucky to have another visit from the author Bemma Akyeampong. The Early Years and KS1 children sat enthralled as Bemma told them the story of her latest book. The the older children were eager to share with her their memories of her last visit.
The story time session was followed by Gumboot and Guru African dancing in the hall and a great time was had by all! Bemma was teaching the children how to make the vocalisations incorporated within the dances which transported to them to the savanna!
After lunch they explored the traditional technique of Batik printing using paints, fingers and brushes on a cotton cloth. Their art work was amazing and we are planning to find a way to display them within in school for everyone to enjoy and be a reminder of a very successful day.
As Bemma bid farewell to the children she praised them for their enthusiasm and the obvious enjoyment they had expressed across the day, she said, “I love coming to this school as the children are always so open to new experiences. They are well behaved, listen well and are a pleasure to work with.”
