A visit from Bemma Akyeampong

On Tuesday 30th of January 2024 Class 1 had a visit in school from an author we have worked with before, called Bemma Akyeampong. Bemma has previously visited the school for African dance workshops and during Covid we had the opportunity, via video call, for her to read to us her story of Ayuda’s messy rescue.

On the 30th January Bemma brought her new book along, Ayuda’s stormy rescue. It was great to see her in person this time!

Bemma read her new book to us and we were able to think about the setting of the story in Africa, and how this is different from our local environment.

We had the opportunity to learn some African dance to help imbed this knowledge of a different culture. It was fabulous to put all the moves together for a final performance before lunch.

After lunch Bemma introduced us to the African art of bead painting. We coloured the cloth brown before replicating a piece of African mask art on the cloth. We used the paints to look like beading, using bright colours. This was an activity thoroughly enjoyed by all.
