This year on Remembrance Day we were unable to attend the village war memorial at 11am as we were at our weekly swimming session. However, the children observed a two minute silence at the swimming baths, along with everyone else there, at 11am.
When we returned to school Katie had made poppy biscuits as part of our lunch. Afterwards, the worship team delivered a Remembrance worship, that they were also involved in the planning of.
As part of this worship they read the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ written by John McCrae, followed by ‘Flo of the Somme’ written by Hilary Robinson. These pieces of literature were used to help to explain the meaning behind, and the importance of, Remembrance Day.
The children sang a hymn to remember the soldiers who had given so much for our futures and then a prayer was said to end the worship.
‘When you go home tell them of us and say,
For your tomorrow, we gave our today.’
