EYFS Playground

Back in Spring term 2017 it was decided to use some of the budget to develop an area for the EYFS. Previously it was overgrown, plain and not very child friendly.

So with the help of the year 5/6 children and Miss Gailley a plan was devised, resources identified to meet the seven stages of learning linked to the Early Years Curriculum. The children used their knowledge of numeracy to create a scaled map and produce a plan of the items intended. The area was measured, then a 1 -10 scaled aerial view created.

The children were given a £2000 budget to spend. They identified suitable resources and then had to agree which learning area their items met. Detailed lists of items, cost, catalogue and page numbers were produced and an order created. The children went on to write a blog of the weeks activities before collating a more detailed report  to be presented to the school council and the representatives of the schools Governing Body.

The PTFA applied to the DCC Local Project Fund  for a grant and were awarded £800 towards the project.

NoMow a local company which specialises in artificial grass was contacted and a quote received. This was laid at the start of the Autumn term along with four colourful flowers. A security gate erected by DCC to meet safeguarding requirements. The garden area was planted with herbs and scented flowers to make a sensory and textured garden.

The equipment was ordered and the EYFS children can now enjoy free flow play and  outdoor activities. Stage 1 of the refurbishment is complete, keep your eyes open for the next stage!
