The school year was brought to a wonderful end with a whole school trip to Cadbury’s World in Bourneville near Birmingham. We picked Cadbury’s World as Class 1 had been learning about South America throughout the Summer Term, looking at the geography, the climate, comparing with our own country and, of course, finding out about the history of chocolate!
We were blessed with fantastic weather for our trip and the journey passed quickly as we were all so excited. Our visit started with a presentation about the History of the Mayan people and the role of chocolate in their society. We took part in trying on Mayan clothing and head dresses, playing Mayan games, reading a codex which took the whole school to hold, and looking at artefacts.
We watched a brilliant interactive film about all thing’s chocolate, wandered through the Mayan jungles discovering Mayan architecture and we even met the Cadbury’s Mini Egg Bird who was very cuddly and posed for lots of photos!
We watched a demonstration of the making of chocolate from the bean to the bar and then we got hands on with the delicious chocolate ourselves, working the gooey liquid chocolate on the slabs and eventually trying out our decorating skills by writing and drawing with scrummy milk chocolate!
Our day wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to the factory shop to bag some yummy treats to take home and some time having fun in the play park before heading home. A really memorable and fun way to end another packed school year!
