Litter Pick

On Monday 20th June the whole school undertook a litter pick around the village as part of the continued work, due to being an Ambassador School for the Peak District National Park.  This day was decided upon because it followed the weekend and the previous litter pick earlier in the year had been in the latter part of the week.

Varying the days and times throughout the year provides the children with the opportunity to investigate when there is the most litter within the village. The following are some of the questions the children asked:  Is there more litter straight after the weekend? Is there a continual stream of litter throughout the week?  Can we find more litter during hotter weather? Does the season we are in affect how much litter we find? Where was the most litter found?

The children were very excited to use the litter pickers donated by ‘Hydro Flasks, Parks for All’. Visitors to the village were very pleased to see the school children’s commitment to the important task of caring for their village and the local environment.

A visitor quoted ‘We have visited many villages in the locality during our holiday and this was the cleanest village they had seen by far. It is obvious that the village is much loved by its local community.’
