Rubbish here, Rubbish there, Rubbish is everywhere!

Thursday 18th May 2017

The children in the key stage 1 classroom eagerly anticipated the visit to the Veolia Recycling Centre as part of their topic about caring for the environment.

They enjoyed a guided tour around the centre and learning how the waste from their homes is sorted and then sent onto be re-used or recycled for different purposes. The children then decided if the items they had classified were originally made from man-made or natural materials.

Tom said: ‘It was absolutely brilliant, I really enjoyed wearing the ‘High Vis Vest’ and helmet, then listening to Leslie over the walkie talkie as we saw all the rubbish getting sorted into different bales!’

Brenda said: ‘I thought it would smell but it didn’t because there was no food waste.’

The crowning glory to the visit was the making of a plant pot from newspaper and then planting cress seeds in them to take home.
