We first met at school, after that we made our way to the village hall to perform our concert in front of the Duke. We did some voice exercises to get our voices ready for singing. While we patiently waited to go on stage the Duke said a couple of words and when the Duke had finished Mrs Blackwell introduced us to everyone and then we walked out onto the stage. Rachel our conductor announced the name of the first song ‘Kuna Karamu’. We sang 6 more songs then after that the adults went up to the Lych gates of the church to see the unveiling of the exquisite sculpture of the 7th Duke. Meanwhile, back down at school we got ready to unveil the spellbinding, mind blowing Mural of the Family tree that has all the surnames of the pupils that have passed through our school. During the revealing of the mural, the Duke said to me “Did you do any of this?” I replied “Yes we all did a bit.” After we unveiled the Mural we went into the Junior Class to watch the Duke cut the 150 commemorative cake which was kindly made by Mrs Bunting. Other cakes were kindly made by parents and the village community for eating on the day. After that we went into the Infant Class to have a little party.
My favourite part was the singing because that was my last performance at school before I leave for secondary school at the end of this term. The part I found most interesting was the part where I looked at the artefacts in the hall, which were of the school in the olden days and the present. It is important to celebrate a historic occasions because you can see how the school got on in the olden days and how the world has evolved over the years.IMG_8753 IMG_8763
