Keeping traditions alive

Every year. in the month of May  the children perform May Pole dancing to traditional and modern music in Hartington Village Hall.  This is linked to the Flower Festival held at St Giles Church.

Hartington Harvest in St.Giles

The school children have a display corner in St.Giles Church where they show case their work. This involves a Christmas, Easter, Flower Festival and Harvest display linked to a theme.

Growing vegetables

The children of Hartington School have a gardening club. This is run by Mrs Liz Broomhead MBE our Vice Chair of governors and Mrs Janet Bray from the local community. They grow plants from seeds, learn how to care for them, plant them out in the village boxes, tend to them during the season, grow …

Making music

Music lessons are supported by Music Partnership who come into school and teach us about rhythm, pitch, tone and sound. We play musical instruments from different countries and learn new interesting songs.

Construction work

To consolidated their understanding of structures the children worked collaboratively to make the local village out of Lego. Each child designed and made their own home with elaborate gardens whilst learning how to include struts to create pitched roofs.  


Our whole school residential trip to Lea Green, Lea, Matlock. We participate in GPS orienteering, Archery, Soft play, It’s a Knock Out, Cave rock climbing, play area, Astro turf football, Low ropes, Equilibrium, Obstacle course, Zip wire, Buggies and Bikes and the Water slide.
